OFF-SHORE FEATURE: ESCAPE

Feb 20, 2016

OFF-SHORE FLEET

Mate: Nick Gowitzka

"Buy a kid a fish and feed him for one day; teach a kid to fish and...........you can spend his whole college fund trying to keep him rigged up!!" Captain Scott Williams

Or, you can start the kid out early, working hard, just as Captain Scott did. He began commercial fishing at the age of 13 with family friend along the Virginia coast and Chesapeake Bay area. He and his Dad would spend summers here on the Outer Banks fishing and visiting Oregon Inlet Fishing Center. Captain Scott made the move here and landed his first job with Captain BG Smith at Pirate's Cove in 1990, later becoming a free-lance mate, working for some of the legendary captains as Walt Spruill, Duke Spencer, and Richie Howell, just to name a few. Scott would arrive early and sit on the porch of the fishing center to get a mate's spot for the day. He earned his captain's license and took his first captain job at the age of 27 in 1995. He bought the first "Escape" in 1997, skippering it for 7 years before calling on his old mentor, Richie Howell, to build him a new 58 boat, running it for several years. While taking some time away from full-time fishing to focus on his family, he served as a relief captain for most all of the boats in the fleet. Captain Scott bought the current "Escape" in January of 2015, furthering its 18 year service here at the fishing center. Captain Scott and his wife of 24 years, and 2 sons ages 12 and 13 are proud to call the Outer Banks home and the family enjoys fishing just as much as Captain Scott does.

The "Escape" is a 51 foot custom build by Scarborough Boats and sports an 1100 hp MAN engine with a 24 knot cruising speed. The bridge is well-equipped with the latest navigational and safety electronics. The salon is heated and air- conditioned, giving you the best in comfort in any season. You'll find plenty of comfortable seating, storage, and food prep space as well as a microwave and refrigerator. Out in the cock- pit, suit up in stand-up fighting gear or pick your favorite chair and get ready for the thrill of a lifetime! The "Escape" maintains a well- stocked tackle locker, relying on top quality Shimano and Penn tackle to get the job done. You will also have the skillful services of First Mate Nick Gowitzka at your ready. You may recognize him from NatGeo hit show, "Wicked Tuna Outer Banks". His bold personality is sure to make your trip eventful and memorable! What are you waiting for? Here's your personal invitation to plan your "Escape" to the deep blue sea today!!
