FISHING-REPORT-07-25-12

Jul 25, 2012

Offshore boats are catching yellowfin tuna. Not typical midsummer offshore fishing. The tuna are above average in size. There are not as many dolphin as would normally be expected at this time of the year. There are big gaffers among the ones that are being caught. There were four blue marlin caught and released. Two citations were sent for two of the blue marlin and two for white marlin. Ian Watson from Akron, Ohio caught and released a long bill spearfish. The captain is sending me a picture. I will add the picture to this report. Spearfish are not often caught in this area. The spearfish as is typical impressed everyone with it's vivid blue display. Inshore boats caught amberjacks, tailor bluefish and spanish mackerel. A bottom fishing trip caught croakers and sea bass. Miss Oregon Inlet caught an interesting variety of fish, croakers, flounders, sea mullet, grey trout, seabass and puffers.
