FEATURE REPORT: WEST WIND

Feb 5, 2016

Captain Olan West has been fishing since he was a little boy. He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia and his family would come down every summer to vacation on the Outer Banks. At a young age, he fell in love with fishing and the sea. As soon as he graduated High School in 1982, he made his way to Ocracoke and lived in a tiny trailer. He started out commercial fishing on a long line boat. After commercial fishing for several years, he got a job as a mate. In 1996, he made the move up the beach and bought a home in Nags Head. A year later, he was hired as Captain of a private boat called the Sea Bear. It was during this time he decided he wanted to build and operate his own boat. With determination and hard work, he started building his boat in 2000 and she was put in the water in the summer of 2001. Captain Olan has two beautiful grown daughters that love to go out on the water. His wife is a local school teacher and loves to go fishing whenever she gets a chance.

New to the water in June 2001, the "West Wind" is a 57 foot customer sportfisher built by Leonard Rigsbee in Morehead City, NC. The "West Wind" has twin 735 hp Detroit diesel engines with a cruising speed of 25 knots. The spacious salon is fully equipped with A/C and heat, microwave and refrigerator, AM/FM Satellite Radio, and TV/VCR. You can lounge on comfortable sofas on your way out to the Gulf Stream! We feature Shimano Rods and Reels to handle ANY fishing situation.

Captain Olan West loves fishing and his professional crew will blow you away!! He'll show you tips, tactics, and methods of saltwater fishing! NOTE FROM THE CAPTAIN "I personally look forward to fishing with you this summer!! All the best, Captain Olan West"
