Captain Olan West has been fishing since he was a little boy. He was born in Charlottesville, Virginia and his family would come down every summer to vacation on the Outer Banks. At a young age, he fell in love with fishing and the sea. As soon as he graduated High School in 1982, he made his way to Ocracoke and lived in a tiny trailer. He started out commercial fishing on a long line boat. After commercial fishing for several years, he got a job as a mate. In 1996, he made the move up the beach and bought a home in Nags Head. A year later, he was hired as Captain of a private boat called the “Sea Bear”. It was during this time he decided he wanted to build and operate his own boat. With determination and hard work, he started building his boat in 2000 and she was put in the water in the summer of 2001. Captain Olan has two beautiful grown daughters who love to go out on the water. His wife is a local school teacher and loves to go fishing whenever she gets a chance.
