Seldom is there a day in which so many wahoos are caught. Several were in excess of 60 pounds, one was 71 pounds. Several boats had eight one had 9 another 10. There were some nice blackfin tuna catches one had 26. A few good size yellowfin tunas were caught the yellowfins averaged over 30 pounds a 60 pounder was caught. Scattered saifish and white marlin were caught and released. Wahoos have very sharp teeth. Landing a wahoo involves keeping a very active fish on the gaff where it can be controlled. Occasionally in order to make certain a second gaff is used. A lot of wahoos are lost when they cut through nylon leader. Wire leader solves this problem but often they won't bite a lure when wire is attached to it . A good ratio of bites to fish landed today was 30 bites to 10 landed. The ratio can be evan bigger. One boat went from monfilament to wire and back to monofilament. A really nice trout catch was made on an allday open boat trip. Both speckled trout and grey trout were caught.Trout seem to be migrating from down the sound closer to the inlet. Miss Oregon Inlet caught flounders, sea bass, pigfish and puffers. A very exciting day both offshore and near the inlet.
